Research and project coordinator
Dr Jakub Gajewski is the director of the research programme of the RCSI Institute of Global Surgery. He is a health sociologist with over fifteen years of research, teaching and project management experience. He has been involved in several population-based studies, including studies of young people’s well-being, diabetes and epilepsy conducted in over 50 countries worldwide. Recent work includes leading the COST-Africa project. Dr Gajewski is also a co-principal investigator on the Akazi project addressing the need for functional breast and cervical screening services in rural Malawi. He has written extensively on human resources for health, implementation, research evaluation and surgical systems in sub-Saharan Africa. He is the international coordinator and the lead researcher for the SURG-Africa project.
