Professor of surgery at the University of Malawi College of Medicine and consultant paediatric surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. He was instrumental in setting up one of the very first paediatric surgical postgraduate training in sub-Saharan Africa. He was chair of Examinations and Credentials Committee of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA). Now he is COSECSA secretary general. Prof Borgstein worked in COST-Africa before becoming the principal investigator for COSECSA and co-principal investigator for SURG-Africa, where he supports the implementation of the project in Malawi.
