Dean of the College of Medicine, University of Malawi, Prof Mkandawire studied undergraduate medicine at Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia, and did postgraduate orthopaedic training in the Northwest/Mersey Deanery orthopaedic training programme in the UK. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a foundation fellow of the College of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and a fellow of the Federation for Advancement In Medical Education and Research (FAIMER). Prof Mkandawire leads the SURG-Africa project in Malawi.
