Dr Linda Chokotho was the first female orthopaedic surgeon in Malawi. While volunteering at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, established the first Hand Surgery Clinic to improve the management of hand conditions.
She is a fellow of the College of Surgeons for East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and a member of the Core Group for the World Health Organisation (WHO) Mentor-VIP program.

Today we introduce Professor Mark Shrime, the new Chair of Global Surgery at RCSI University.
He is currently on his way from Boston, where he worked as assistant professor of Otolaryngology and of Global Health and Social Medicine at the Harvard Medical School. And where he also worked as an otolaryngologist at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. We had a very interesting conversation on social media and advocacy with:

Also Medical Director of the San Carlos Clinical Hospital and Director of the Innovation Unit of the San Carlos Health Research Institute. Vice President of the Foundation for Biomedical Research San Carlos and Secretary of the BJS Society (British Journal of Surgery). - Dr Dominique Vervoort, Co-Founder and Member of the Board of Trustees of InciSion, is Candidate for Masters in Public Health and Masters in Business Administration (MPH-MBA) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Dr Vervoort completed the Paul Farmer Global Surgery Fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Dr Singatiya Chikumbanje is a specialist paediatric anaesthesiologist working at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, in Blantyre, Malawi. She is the head of the Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care and one of the SURG-Africa mentors in the country.
Dr Ronald Tubasiime, is General Surgeon at Kibogora District Hospital, in the Western Province in the Nyamasheke District in the village of Kibogora (Rwanda).
Graduate of Pan African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS) and a fellow of COSECSA from 2016, Dr Tubasiime is lecturer at the University of Rwanda and programme site director for COSECSA at Kibogora hospital. We go beyond our natural working borders to talk to the General Surgeon Dr Alliance Niyukuri in Burundi.
Dr Alliance is head of the Department of Surgery at Kibuye Hope Hospital in Gitega, Burundi. He will talk to us about the measures Burundi has taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country and how this pandemic has affected district hospitals. Today we interview Dr Karima Khalid to know how Covid-19 has affected her work as anaesthesiologist and lecturer.
Dr Karima Khalid is the treasurer of the Society of Anaesthesiologists in Tanzania. She works as an anaesthesiologist herself at the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute and as a lecturer at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences. We are talking to Judith Munthali to know how Covid-19 has impacted on the work of surgical nurses at the operating theatre in her hospital.
Judith works as chief nursing officer at the University Teaching Specialised Eye Hospital in Lusaka Zambia. She is also president of the Zambian Operating Theatre Nurses Interest Group (ZOTNIG), and one of SURG-Africa supervisors in the country. Today we interview Dr John Kachimba, senior medical superintendent and consultant urologist at Livingstone Central Hospital.
Dr Kachimba is also vice chairman of the National Science and Technology Council, and principal investigator for SURG-Africa in Zambia. We talk again with Professor Eric Borgstein to hear the latest COVID-19 related developments in Malawi: the recent health workers strikes and the cancellation of the lockdown in the country.
Professor Borgstein teaches surgery at the University of Malawi College of Medicine and he is also a consultant paediatric surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. He is also COSECSA's Secretary General.
