Dr Linda Chokotho was the first female orthopaedic surgeon in Malawi. While volunteering at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, established the first Hand Surgery Clinic to improve the management of hand conditions.
She is a fellow of the College of Surgeons for East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and a member of the Core Group for the World Health Organisation (WHO) Mentor-VIP program. Today we introduce Professor Mark Shrime, the new Chair of Global Surgery at RCSI University.
He is currently on his way from Boston, where he worked as assistant professor of Otolaryngology and of Global Health and Social Medicine at the Harvard Medical School. And where he also worked as an otolaryngologist at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. We had a very interesting conversation on social media and advocacy with:
- Dr Julio Mayol, a Full Professor of Surgery and a Member of the Center for Surgical Studies at the Complutense University of Madrid. Also Medical Director of the San Carlos Clinical Hospital and Director of the Innovation Unit of the San Carlos Health Research Institute. Vice President of the Foundation for Biomedical Research San Carlos and Secretary of the BJS Society (British Journal of Surgery). - Dr Dominique Vervoort, Co-Founder and Member of the Board of Trustees of InciSion, is Candidate for Masters in Public Health and Masters in Business Administration (MPH-MBA) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Dr Vervoort completed the Paul Farmer Global Surgery Fellowship at Harvard Medical School. |
